The Road Less Traveled: Burnet to Austin

Are you planning a road trip from Burnet, Texas to Austin, Texas? Or maybe you just need to get from point A to point B. Either way, we’ve got you covered with these routes and approximate travel times.

The Scenic Route (60 miles, 1.5 hours)

If you’re in no rush, take the scenic route through the Texas Hill Country by way of State Highway 29. You’ll pass through charming small towns like Bertram, Liberty Hill, and Georgetown. Don’t forget to stop and take in the views of beautiful Lake Travis at Pace Bend Park. This route will take around 1.5 hours but the views are worth it.

Recommendations: Check out the historic Palace Theatre in Georgetown and enjoy some BBQ from the famous Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor.

The Expressway (50 miles, 1 hour)

If you’re short on time and prefer the highway, take the US-183 South route from Burnet to Austin. This route will take you through Cedar Park and past the Leander Station, where you can catch the MetroRail into downtown Austin. This route usually takes about one hour.

Recommendations: If your schedule allows, take a quick detour to see the vintage airplanes at the Georgetown Airport.

The Scenic Express (54 miles, 1-1.5 hours)

For a great balance of scenery and speed, take the Tollway 183A South route. This route will take you through the charming town of Leander and past the Gateway Shopping Center, which is a great place to stop for gas and snacks. This route will usually take around 1 to 1.5 hours.

Recommendations: Take a break and stretch your legs at Brushy Creek Lake Park in Cedar Park.

The Backroads (63 miles, 1.5-2 hours)

For those who want to take the road less traveled, take the RM-1431 E route. This route goes through Marble Falls and Jonestown, two small towns that offer a glimpse into small-town Texas life. This route is usually a bit longer, taking around 1.5-2 hours.

Recommendations: Enjoy the beautiful scenery and waterfalls at Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge in Marble Falls.

The Straight Shot (45 miles, 45 minutes)

If you’re in a hurry and prefer the quickest route, simply take the US-183 South route. This is the fastest route and will get you to Austin in about 45 minutes.

Recommendations: If you’re short on time, grab a quick bite to eat at the Giddings Downtown Restaurant in Giddings, Texas.
