Road Tripping from Berkeley to Alameda: A Guide to Travel Time

Looking for the perfect road trip from Berkeley to Alameda? Look no further! There are several routes to the island city of Alameda to choose from. Route 1: The Bay Bridge

The Bay Bridge route is the most direct route between Berkeley and Alameda. Take I-580 West to I-80 West until you can get onto the Bay Bridge. The route is about 12 miles long and it takes about 24 minutes to drive - not counting traffic. Speaking of which, this route can get congested during rush hour, so plan accordingly.

We recommend making a quick stop in Treasure Island on the way. There are some great views of the city from the island, as well as some fantastic restaurants.

Route 2: The Richmond Bridge

If you prefer a scenic drive, consider the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge route. Take I-80 East to the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge. Although the route is a bit longer, at 19 miles, it takes about the same amount of time as the Bay Bridge route (again, not counting traffic). This route offers stunning views of the Bay and the San Rafael Bridge. It's also a good option if you want to avoid the Bay Bridge traffic.

We recommend stopping in Point San Pablo Yacht Harbor on the way. The harbor boasts some beautiful boats, a fishing pier, and a waterfront restaurant.

Route 3: Highway 13-South

The Highway 13-South route is another scenic option that takes you through the hills of Berkeley and Oakland. Take Highway 13-South to Highway 580 West and then take I-880 South to Alameda. The route is a bit longer than the Bay Bridge route, at about 16 miles, but it offers some great views of the Bay Area. It takes about 24 minutes to drive, again not counting traffic.

We recommend a stop at Chabot Space and Science Center along the way. The science museum has some fantastic exhibits and even some telescopes for stargazing.

Route 4: The Ferry

Finally, if you're looking for a unique option, consider taking the ferry from Jack London Square in Oakland to Alameda. The ferry takes about 10 minutes to get to Alameda. It's the perfect option if you want to avoid driving altogether.

We recommend a stop at Jack London Square on the way. The waterfront area has some great shops and restaurants, as well as a fantastic farmers market on Sundays.
