If you’re in no rush and want to enjoy the scenery, taking Highway 38 through the mountains is a great option. This winding road will lead you through the San Bernardino National Forest, past Lake Arrowhead and into the Inland Empire. While it may take a little longer than some of the other routes, the views are unbeatable and there are plenty of spots to pull over and take pictures.
Recommendations: Stop at the Lake Arrowhead Village for shopping and dining, or take a hike on one of the many trails in the forest.
Route 2: The Quickest Route
Distance: 40 miles
Time: 55 minutes
If you’re looking to get to Palm Springs as quickly as possible, taking Highway 18 and then merging onto Highway 62 is your best bet. While this route isn’t as scenic as the first option, it will get you to your destination faster. Note that some parts of Highway 18 have heavy traffic during peak vacation seasons.
Recommendations: Stop at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon for some retail therapy or take a tram ride up the San Jacinto Mountains.
Route 3: The Middle Ground
