#Roadtripping from Cambridge to Hopkinton: Time and Routes
So, you want to go from bustling Cambridge to the charming small town of Hopkinton, huh? Maybe you're heading there to explore the Boston Marathon starting point. Maybe you're meeting a friend for lunch. Whatever your reason for traveling, there are a few routes to choose from and times that you'll want to keep in mind.
##The Route Options
First off, there are three main ways to get from Cambridge to Hopkinton: taking the Mass Pike, going through Route 30, or going through Route 9. Each route has its own charms and different travel times.
###Through the Mass Pike
The Mass Pike is a straightforward route to take, as it's a straight shot from Cambridge to Hopkinton along the I-90. The whole trip is about 27 miles and should take around 35-40 minutes depending on traffic. Since this is a fast route, there aren't many spots to stop and stretch your legs. But, if you're looking to get from A to B quickly, this is the route for you.
###The Route 30
Route 30 starts off relatively slow through Cambridge, but then opens up into a wider, sunnier road as you get closer to Hopkinton. Along the way, you'll even pass by a few parks to stop and have a picnic in. Expect this route to take closer to 45 minutes, with about 18 miles of total driving. If you have extra time, take advantage of the scenery and pull over to the side of the road for a photo op.
###The Route 9
Finally, the route along Route 9 clocks in around the same time and distance as Route 30—about 42 minutes and 18 miles. But, this route has a few more options for stopping. Near Wellesley, you'll pass by restaurants and small shops that are perfect for a quick bite or little shopping detour. Plus, the scenery along Route 9 is particularly beautiful in the fall.
##The Recommended Stops
However you decide to drive to Hopkinton, there are a few places that we think are worth adding to your itinerary.
###Along the Mass Pike
While you won't want to deviate too much from the Mass Pike on Route 90, we recommend grabbing lunch at the Sichuan Gourmet. This restaurant has some of the best Dan Dan noodles and Hot and Sour Soup around. Plus, it's located just off the Mass Pike in Natick Commons, making it an easy stop on the way to Hopkinton.
###On Route 30
If you're driving through Route 30, make a pit stop at Cochituate State Park. This picture-perfect park is a hidden gem and is home to a small beach that's perfect for a swim in the summer. Walk the trails and take in the natural beauty of the park before getting back on the road.
###On Route 9
Route 9 is full of fun stops, but we highly recommend taking a detour to the Boston Sports Institute. This sports facility offers all sorts of activities, from ice skating to bubble soccer. Whether you're with friends or family, there's something for everyone here.
No matter which route you choose or what stops you make along the way, we promise that your journey from Cambridge to Hopkinton will be thoroughly enjoyable. Just be sure to take your time and enjoy the ride!
