Canton to Bowie: How to Get There and Where to Stop Along the Way
Are you planning a road trip from Canton to Bowie, Texas? This 146-mile journey can take anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 hours, depending on which route you choose. To help you plan your journey, we've put together some options, the distance of each route, and the time each route takes.
Option 1: Taking I-30 W
This is the quickest and most direct route. After leaving Canton, drive west on I-20 for about 33 miles, and then take the exit for I-30 W towards Dallas. You will then stay on I-30 W for the remaining 97 miles until you reach Bowie. This route shouldn't take more than 2.5 hours, barring traffic conditions.
Along the way, consider stopping at the quaint town of Greenville, which is about an hour into your journey. The town is famous for its historic downtown square, which has plenty of antique shops, cafes, and restaurants. It's also home to the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum.
Option 2: Taking US-69 N
This route is slightly longer but offers some scenic country roads for those who like to take their time and avoid highways. After leaving Canton, drive north on US-69 for about 90 miles until you reach the town of Greenville. Here you can take either US-82 W or I-30 W to Bowie, which will take another hour or so, depending on the route you choose.
We recommend stopping in Tyler, which is about halfway through this route. Tyler is known as the Rose Capital of America and has some beautiful public rose gardens that are worth checking out. The town also has a popular zoo and some fantastic local BBQ joints.
Option 3: Taking TX-19 and US-271 N
This route offers a more scenic drive through the heart of East Texas. After leaving Canton, drive north on TX-19 for 20 miles until you reach the town of Emory. Here you'll turn onto US-271 N and drive for another 90 miles until you reach Bowie.
Along the way, consider stopping at Lake Cypress Springs, which is about halfway through this route. The lake is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and water sports, and there are plenty of places to rent equipment or have a picnic lunch.
