"Beach Bumming: Travel Time Between Cape May and Ocean City"
If you're craving a beach day down the shore, Cape May and Ocean City make for two fantastic options. Both towns boast beautiful beaches, fun boardwalks, and plenty of attractions. The two towns aren't too far apart, but the travel time between them can differ depending on the route you take. Here are a few options to consider:
The Garden State Parkway Route
The Garden State Parkway is the easiest and most popular way to get from Cape May to Ocean City. This scenic route takes you along the coast, so you can enjoy beautiful views of the ocean along the way. The distance between the two towns is approximately 35 miles and the drive takes around 45 minutes.
If you're in a rush to get to Ocean City, it's best to take this main route. However, if you have a little extra time, there are some great places to stop along the way. We recommend checking out the Cape May County Park and Zoo or grabbing lunch at The Crabhouse at Two Mile Landing in Wildwood.
The Ocean Drive Route
For a more scenic drive with less traffic, consider taking the Ocean Drive route. This route takes you along the coast as well, but on a scenic drive through the Cape May Peninsula and the Wetlands Institute. From there, you'll cross over the bridge into Ocean City. This route is slightly longer, at around 41 miles, but it only takes about an hour.
This route is perfect for a leisurely drive on a beautiful day. Along the way, be sure to stop at Sunset Beach to see the "Concrete Ship" or hike the trails at the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge.
The Ferries Route
If you're feeling adventurous and want to switch things up, consider taking the Cape May-Lewes Ferry from Cape May to Lewes, Delaware. From there, it's about a 12-mile drive to Ocean City. The ferry ride is about 85 minutes and offers stunning views of the coast and wildlife.
While this route takes longer, it's a unique experience that you won't have on the other routes. Once you arrive in Lewes, grab some lunch at Striper Bites before making the short drive to Ocean City.
No matter which route you take, you'll arrive in Ocean City ready for a day of sun and fun. We recommend checking out the iconic boardwalk, grabbing some saltwater taffy at Shriver's, and hitting up the rides and games at Gillian's Wonderland Pier. Happy travels!
