Carolina Beach to Orlando: A Road Trip Adventure!
Looking to escape the beach town life for a little while and head to the Happiest Place on Earth? A road trip from Carolina Beach, North Carolina to Orlando, Florida could be just what you need! With a few different routes to choose from, there's bound to be a way that suits your travel style and time constraints.
The Coastal Route
One option is to take the scenic coastal route down to Florida. This route follows US-17 S down through Wilmington, NC, Brunswick, GA, and Jacksonville, FL before dropping down onto I-95 S for the final stretch. The total distance is around 600 miles and should take around 11 hours of driving time.
While this route is a bit longer than other options, it offers the chance to take in some beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and experience a bit more of the Southern coastal charm. If you have the time, consider making a pitstop in Wilmington to check out the historic downtown area or take a stroll along the Carolina Beach boardwalk before getting on your way.
The Inland Route
For a quicker and more direct route, taking I-95 S all the way to Orlando is your best bet. This route is around 550 miles and should take just under 9 hours of driving time (depending on traffic, of course).
While this route may be less exciting in terms of scenery, it does offer plenty of opportunities to stop and stretch your legs. Consider taking a break at South of the Border, a quirky and colorful rest stop in Dillon, SC, or grabbing a bite to eat at one of the many BBQ joints along the way.
The Scenic Route
If you're not in a rush and want to take the most scenic route possible, consider taking US-301 through the heart of Florida. This route begins by taking you south toward Fayetteville, NC before joining up with I-95 S and then branching off onto US-301 in Starke, FL.
While this route is a bit longer than others (coming in at around 640 miles), it offers the chance to drive through some of Florida's most picturesque small towns and countryside. Consider stopping in Waldo for a cup of coffee at the historic Whistle Stop Cafe or exploring the charming streets of downtown Ocala before continuing on your way.
