Hitting the Road: Travel Time from Cedar Point to Raleigh

Are you planning a trip from Cedar Point to Raleigh, the booming capital of North Carolina? We've got you covered! Whether you're taking a leisurely drive or trying to get there as fast as possible, there are a few different routes to choose from. Below, we've laid out the distance and drive time for each option, along with some recommendations for places to stop and stretch your legs.

Route 1: Via NC-24 E and US-70 W

Distance: 154 miles Drive time: Approximately 2 hours 45 minutes

This route takes you through some picturesque East Carolina towns and quaint country roads before eventually hitting the open freeway. On NC-24 E, you'll pass through Jacksonville, a town home to a popular marine corps base, and drive through Croatan National Forest. Plan on 45 minutes to an hour just to hit the freeway, which means less traffic to worry through. Once on US -70, expect a mostly straightforward drive until you hit the outskirts of the Raleigh-Durham area.

Along the way, we recommend taking a detour to visit Tryon Palace, a stunning reproduction of the 18th-century governor's mansion in New Bern. Don't forget to try their world-famous sweet potato biscuits!

Route 2: Via I-40 W

Distance: 150 miles Drive time: Approximately 2 hours 30 minutes

This route takes you straight through I-40, which is ideal if you're in a bit of a hurry. It's arguably the fastest route, although it misses much of the charming small-town scenery. After about an hour, you'll reach a small town called Benson, which has a charming little collection of antique shops and restaurants that's worth a browse.

About 30 minutes east of Raleigh on I-40, you'll find Lake Wheeler Park, which makes for a pleasant break from the drive. You can rent boats, enjoy some fishing or just picnic along the lake.

Route 3: Via NC-58 N

Distance: 170 miles Drive time: Approximately 3 hours 10 minutes

If you're looking to take in the sights, we suggest going via NC-58 N, which will take you through some stunning coastline and popular vacation spots like Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach. Be sure to take a break and walk along the Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier or take a quick swim at the beach.

From there, it's a pretty straightforward drive towards Raleigh, taking US-70 E and I-40 E, but do expect more traffic closer to the capital region. When you get close to the city, you'll pass by the village of Cary, which is home to some great restaurants and shopping, so plan to stop for lunch or coffee.
