Road Trip: Cedar Rapids to Winchester
Get ready for an adventure! Driving from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Winchester, Virginia, can take you on an unforgettable journey through America's heartland and its scenic countryside. In Pennsylvania, enjoy a stop in Hershey to indulge in some chocolate, or to take a tour of the Gettysburg Battlefield.
The Southern Route - I-44 and I-81
Another option is taking the southern route, which takes you on a more scenic journey through St. Louis, Nashville, and Knoxville. This route is longer, stretching over 1095 miles, but only takes an hour longer than the northern route without any stops.
Along the way, be sure to stop in Nashville, Tennessee, and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. When in Knoxville, take a stroll around the University of Tennessee campus. Finally, end your journey in Winchester, Virginia, at the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park.
The Direct Route - I-70 and I-68
The shortest route is the direct route which covers 805 miles, and takes around 12 hours. This route takes you through Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio, before crossing the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia on I-68 and ending in Winchester, Virginia. Although it does not have as many sightseeing opportunities as the other routes, it is a more efficient drive.
If you have time for a pit stop, in Indiana, make sure to visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to view the famous racetrack and learn about its history. In Ohio, visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium for a family-friendly activity.
